This indicator measures:

  •  the proportion of children aged 2 to 15 years who are at risk of obesity.   
  •  the proportion of adults (those aged 16 or over) who are obese.

A child is defined as at risk of obesity if their Body Mass Index (BMI) lies at or above the 95th  percentile of the UK growth reference charts.

An adult is defined as obese if their BMI is 30 or over (according the World Health Organisation (WHO) classification).

Criteria for Change:

For child obesity and adult obesity, at least a 2 percentage point change would be required to constitute a change in performance.
